Is a PhD in math worth it?
For most people (even most people who actually get PhDs), a PhD is unnecessary. My roommate and I describe it as a trophy because it’s mostly for show, even more than other degrees. The best reason to get a PhD in math is that you want to take more classes and do pure research because you enjoy it.
Is a PhD in mathematics hard?
It depends on your mathematical ability. If this is low, then a math PhD is impossible. If it is high, then it’s not that hard, it just takes a decent work ethic and the ability to set aside 5 years for graduate school.
